Middlesbrough Collections

Dorman Museum Collections
The Dorman Museum houses a vast range of material from 'inkwells to ichthyosaurs'! The rich collections of natural history date back to the 1870s while the first curator, Frank Elgee, established important archaeological collections and later began acquiring social and industrial objects. Recent collecting has concentrated on Middlesbrough history, decorative arts and world cultures.

The museum houses the largest public collection of Linthorpe Art Pottery.

Captain Cook Birthplace Museum Collections
Opened in the 1970s the museum's collection was largely based on ethnographic material acquired through the Dorman Museum. Since then the museum has built up an impressive archive of Cook related ephemera and reference works. It has an active collecting policy that seeks to acquire Cook related objects.
